🌴 BALI — THE ISLAND THAT SLOWS YOU DOWN
A travel story, not a brochure
I still remember my first morning in Bali.
Not the airport. Not the passport stamp.
The moment Bali really started was when I woke up to the sound of scooters somewhere far below, palm leaves moving in the warm air, and that strange feeling that time here works differently.
Bali doesn’t rush you.
And if you arrive tense, overplanned, and tired — it will gently force you to slow down anyway.
This is not just another tropical destination. Bali is a place where nature, spirituality, chaos, beauty, and simplicity exist at the same time. And if it’s your first time here, there are things I wish someone had told me before I landed.

✈️ ARRIVING IN BALI — WHAT REALLY HAPPENS
You land at Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS), tired but excited. The heat hits immediately. Immigration lines can look intimidating, but don’t panic — this is normal.
Most travelers enter Bali with a Visa on Arrival (VoA). It’s valid for 30 days and can be extended once.
If you want to avoid queues after a long flight, buy the e-VoA in advance. Trust me — it’s one of those small decisions that already sets the tone for a smoother trip.
Once you exit the terminal, the real Bali begins — drivers calling names, warm night air, and the feeling that you’ve crossed into a different rhythm of life.
If this is your first time, book an airport transfer. Negotiating at midnight after a long-haul flight is not the vibe.

📱 INTERNET, MAPS & WHY eSIM SAVED MY TRIP
Bali is not the place to “disconnect completely” — at least not at first. You’ll need Google Maps, Grab, Gojek, restaurant reviews, and drivers.
Yes, you can buy SIM cards at the airport.
But the easiest option? eSIM — activated before you even land.

Reliable internet makes Bali feel safe, easy, and surprisingly stress-free.

🚕 GETTING AROUND — THE TRUTH
There is no real public transport in Bali.
You have three options:
- Grab / Gojek — cheap, fast, perfect for short trips (€1–€4)
- Private driver for a day — the best way to explore without stress
- Scooter — only if you are confident and experienced
For first-time visitors, I strongly recommend a private driver at least for your first full day. You’ll see more, learn more, and avoid mistakes.

🌴 WHERE TO STAY — AND WHY IT MATTERS MORE THAN YOU THINK
Choosing the wrong area in Bali can completely change your experience.
Ubud is where Bali breathes. Rice terraces, temples, morning mist, yoga, silence. Perfect if you want depth, not nightlife.
Seminyak is balance. Beach clubs, cafés, shops — ideal for a first visit.
Canggu is young, creative, chaotic in a good way. Surfboards, laptops, sunsets.
Uluwatu is dramatic. Cliffs, luxury villas, sunsets that feel unreal.
Sanur is calm and grounded. Families, long walks, gentle mornings.
Nusa Dua is polished, quiet, and resort-focused.
Bali rewards you when you stay in the right place for your travel style.

⚠️ THINGS PEOPLE DON’T WARN YOU ABOUT
- Don’t drink tap water — ever
- Avoid scooters in rain or at night
- Choose bars carefully (cheap alcohol can be dangerous)
- Monkeys are thieves, not mascots
- Sunscreen is expensive — bring it
These small things make a big difference.
🍜 EAT LIKE A LOCAL (AT LEAST ONCE)
Try:
- Nasi Goreng
- Mie Goreng
- Nasi Campur
- Babi Guling
- Fresh juices and smoothie bowls
Eat in small warungs at least a few times — that’s where Bali feels real.

✨ WHY PEOPLE KEEP COMING BACK
Bali doesn’t try to impress loudly.
It works quietly.
Through routine mornings, simple food, warm smiles, and moments when you realize you’re calmer than you’ve been in years.
And when you leave, you’ll already be planning your return — even if you don’t admit it yet.
If Bali gave you calm and emotional depth, Vietnam offers something different — raw energy, deep history, bold flavors, and a journey that constantly moves forward, from chaotic cities to silent rice fields.
